Department of Justice warns people against Telephone Scams

On the 9th of May, the Department of Justice issued a notice warning that some members of the public have received scam phone calls purporting to be an official from their Department.


The caller is making false claims in relation to arrest warrants, money laundering or other criminal activities. The person is then informed that their PPS number has been linked with suspicious activity and are asked to contact an agent to provide further details.


The Department of Justice "urge members of the public not to engage with these callers, not to return calls to these numbers and not to share any personal information with the callers." An Garda Síochána have been made aware of the scam calls.


Please note that the Department of Justice we NEVER request Bank account or other financial institution account details from you by phone or SMS.
